Congratulations, Cassandra, I hope you enjoy your prize! And as usual, to everyone who stopped by to chat during the hop, it was wonderful to hear from you. Hope to see you at the next one!
November is now MOvember — Men’s Health Month as celebrated by the MUSTACHE MOVEMENT!
My dad is a prostate cancer survivor. While he’s a crusader against all kinds of cancer, I’ve often heard him wonder why everything is pink, why the focus seems so squarely only on breast cancer, when men (and women) are dying by the thousands of many different kinds. His favorite cancer charities are the American Cancer Society and Stand Up to Cancer for that reason.
Every person’s health is important, no matter their gender. Of course, as a women’s rights advocate, I always agitate for women’s health initiatives in particular. But seeing what my dad goes through with his health reminds me — it’s easy to forget the boys… and that they deal differently with issues they may run into. They’re statistically less likely to seek medical attention for difficulties, and as a result, less likely to be diagnosed with conditions in the most timely manner, arguably the most important key in long-term survival for cancers common to men, such as prostate, testicular, and colon cancers.
Movember is a fun movement where men register, start off clean-shaven, and for the rest of the month help draw attention to men’s health and health education issues by growing out their mustaches! The Movember organization fundraises for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, LIVEstrong, and other education initiatives and research, local, national, and international.
This year on my dad’s behalf, and on behalf of the other men in my family, I’m doing a fundraising drive through the rest of MOVEMBER for the movement — as they say, I’m a PROUD MO SISTA! Stop by my page and give if you can, or learn what else you can do to help the men in your life stay healthy!
I’m not growing out my mustache though, don’t worry. Nobody needs that. 😀
I have some errands to run later on, so I better get to working on my NaNo words. I’m WAY behind! Hope everybody has a good day!
